Tysoe Wildlife
The Parish of Tysoe lies along the Edgehill escarpment and borders Oxfordshire to the east.
Our aim is to protect and enhance the natural environment within the parish, ensuring that nature can thrive and be enjoyed by all. We focus on safeguarding habitats and promoting greater biodiversity in both plant and animal life.
With support from Tysoe Parish Council and St Mary’s Church, we’ve created several dedicated wildlife areas across the parish. These include wildflower verges, wildflower margins in the playing fields, as well as wildflower planting, a wildlife hedge and dead hedge, and bird boxes in the churchyard.
We are fortunate to have Radway Meadows, a Warwickshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve, located within the parish, along with the Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground and Nature Reserve. In addition, several local landowners are actively managing land with biodiversity in mind.
Our efforts have also been supported by funding and partnerships with organisations such as the Cotswolds National Landscape, Severn Trent (via Warwickshire Wildlife Trust), and CPRE.
Recent Projects & Initiatives
Mapping Biodiversity
The Parish Council is identifying and mapping key biodiversity sites throughout the parish. This vital work will form the foundation for developing a Local Nature Action Plan, guiding future efforts to protect and enhance our natural environment.
Wildflower Meadow Restoration
We’re encouraging wildflowers to grow in some of the verges within the village.
We’re also working to increase the diversity of wildflowers in St Mary’s Churchyard by introducing green hay—rich in native wildflower seeds—collected from the beautifully established meadow in Oldberrow Churchyard. This traditional method helps restore and enrich local biodiversity.
Engaging the community
We have received funding from the Cotswolds National Landscape, local businesses and organisations to increase community engagement through the provision of information boards in key locations, talks on topics such as bats and butterflies, and workshops for local children focusing on wildlife, food and farming and the natural environment.
