SUMMARY:Bechstein’s bats in a Mosaic Landscape - A Talk by Keith Cohen - Kenilworth Senior Citizens' Club
DESCRIPTION:Since 1999\, Bechstein’s bats in the farming and woodland mosaic south of Trowbridge have been focus for various surveys by Wiltshire Bat Group and others. Keith has run monitoring for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust since 2016\, with Bat Group and other volunteers: bat box checks and radio-tracking have been the core of this\, along with tree roost surveys. Exciting discoveries have included one of the largest recorded maternity roosts in the UK in a hedgerow tree some 500m beyond the woodland boundary and foraging in the wider countryside\, up to 4km from the ancient woodland habitat. \nAbout Keith Cohen:\nKeith Cohen is a Bat Group member and independent consultant ecologist who has worked in ecology and environmental education since 1992\, initially in Scotland\, more recently based in Banbury. He became hooked on bats when Dumfriesshire Bat Group came to advise him on urgent plumbing repairs without disturbing the bats … which turned out to be the first whiskered maternity colony known in Scotland. \nThe talk will be delivered in person at the Kenilworth Senior Citizens’ Club and online on Zoom.\nEveryone Welcome! \n£3 for Warwickshire Bat Group members or £4 for non members. You can pay cash on the door or buy tickets in advance on Eventbrite in person or on Zoom. \nKenilworth Senior Citizens’ Club\, Abbey End Car Park\, Kenilworth\, Warwickshire. SUMMARY:Bat Photography - A Talk by Daniel Hargreaves - Kenilworth Senior Citizens' Club
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve ever admired a photograph of a bat\, you’ve likely come across the work of Daniel Hargreaves. His images have been widely used by the Bat Conservation Trust and many other organisations to inspire interest in bats and promote their conservation. \nDaniel has photographed a remarkable variety of bat species in the UK and around the world\, capturing images and footage that reveal behaviours most of us rarely have the opportunity to see.\nFor this special in-person talk in Kenilworth\, Daniel will share stories\, techniques\, and secrets behind his photography. He’ll also bring along some of the equipment he uses and explain how technology\, fieldcraft\, patience – and plenty of time spent in the dark – come together to produce memorable images of our favourite mammals. \nDaniel has been fascinated by bats from a young age and has travelled extensively\, working with many different species around the world. In 2012\, he received the Pete Guest Award from the Bat Conservation Trust in recognition of his outstanding voluntary contribution to bat conservation. He currently works as Bat Programme Manager for the Vincent Wildlife Trust. \nAlongside his conservation work\, Daniel has a particular passion for bat photography and night-vision filming. He spends countless hours observing and documenting bats\, using cameras and specialist equipment to capture fascinating aspects of their behaviour after dark. \nExpect beautiful images\, fascinating stories and plenty of practical insight into the challenges – and rewards – of photographing bats. \nThe talk will be delivered in person at the Kenilworth Senior Citizens’ Club and online on Zoom.\nEveryone Welcome! \n£3 for Warwickshire Bat Group members or £4 for non members. You can pay cash on the door or buy tickets in advance on Eventbrite. Booking links will be available nearer the time. \nKenilworth Senior Citizens’ Club\, Abbey End Car Park\, Kenilworth\, Warwickshire.
