SUMMARY:Living with water and rivers: now and into the future
DESCRIPTION:Part of River Hope’s The Gathering: For Water and Nature 6–15 March 2026\, this full day event explores how we live with water\, rivers and their biodiversity\, now and into the future. \nThis day brings together local and national voices to explore river health\, pollution\, adaptation and cross-party collaboration for the Avon and its local tributaries. It creates space and opportunity for all to share and reflect on the health of local rivers\, the causes and impacts of pollution\, and climate change and need for adaptation and resilience. It identifies actions we can take to restore Nature and strengthen communities and work together more collaboratively. Through a series of engaging panel discussions with national and local voices\, pledges and calls to action\, we will explore: \n\nTesting the waters: uncovering hidden pollutants\nFrom land to water: how river systems respond\nWater\, rivers and climate change: adaptation and resilience\nCross-party collaboration: hearing from our elected representatives\n\nThe event is free – pre-registration required: \n\n\nReserve a spot\n\n \n \n\n  \nThe programme concludes with an evening film screening of “Jo in the Water” (Ticketed) and the launch of the Clean\, Green and Blue Challenge for Stratford-upon-Avon\, led by Rubbish Friends. \nWhether you are a local resident\, activist\, student\, policymaker\, land manager\, artist or simply someone who cares about water and Nature\, this event is for you! \nThis event has been made possible with the generous support of the Crowne Plaza Stratford-Upon-Avon\, Stratford Town Trust\, Purple Square Audio Visual Ltd\, the Launch Agency and Encode. \nSession collaborators: \n\nUK River Summit\nRivers Rights Network\nBeneath British Waters (filmmaker\, Mark Barrow)\nSafeAvon\nSouth Warwickshire Area Network for Wildlife (SWAN)\nNapton Environmental Action Team (NEAT)\nStratford Climate Action/Net Zero\nMoving Souls Dance\nManuela Perteghella MP\n\n        \n\nEvent organisers: Rubbish Friends Stratford-Upon-Avon and River Hope. \n———– \nAbout “The Gathering: for water and Nature”\nOriginally the vision of River Hope\, “The Gathering: For Water and Nature is an informative\, thought-provoking\, inspiring and collaborative programme celebrating water\, rivers and their ecosystems across South Warwickshire. \nRunning from Friday 6 to Sunday 15 March 2026 and including the International Day of Action for Rivers on Saturday 14 March\, The Gathering brings together science\, activism\, creative arts\, ceremony\, celebration\, and pledges for advocacy and practical action. It offers a mix of films\, data presentations\, talks and performances\, workshops\, panel discussions\, Q&A sessions with local and national speakers and insights from grassroots community groups. \nResidents and different categories of stakeholders can take new opportunities to listen to each other\, see water differently\, remember the value of water and Nature and our part in it\, and celebrate waterbodies as the lifeblood of the web of thriving life for millennia. This is an invitation to remember our deep relationships with water and Nature\, reflect on what values we give to them and work together to restore what is damaged and struggling today. \nFor the full programme of events\, visit The Gathering on River Hope’s website.

SUMMARY:Robert Macfarlane - Is a River Alive?
DESCRIPTION:In a special event organised by the Stratford Literary Festival\, in partnership with River Hope\, the celebrated writer\, academic and performer Robert Macfarlane comes to Stratford-Upon-Avon on March 6th 2026. \nRobert will explain the transformative idea that rivers are not mere matter for human use\, but precious living things that should be recognised as such in both imagination and law. He’ll take us on a mind-expanding global journey into the history\, futures\, people and places of this ancient\, urgent concept. He’ll also talk about how\, around the world\, rivers are dying from pollution\, drought and damming\, but that a powerful movement is also underway to recognise the lives and rights of rivers – and to re-animate our relationships with these vast\, mysterious presences and landscapes we share. This movement is also beginning to ripple and flow locally for the water bodies and river catchments of South Warwickshire and Stratford-on-Avon District. \nRobert Macfarlane is best known for his books on landscape\, nature\, place\, people and language\, which include The Old Ways (2012)\, Landmarks (2015)\, The Lost Words with Jackie Morris (2017)\, and Underland (2019). \n\n\nBook tickets

SUMMARY:RAAR River Walk: Winter on the Arrow
DESCRIPTION:Community Walk and River Check-In\nLocation\nStart and finish at the Eric Payne Community Centre\, Alcesterwhat3words: ///nanny.earphones.view \nThis walk will follow the same accessible loop through Jubilee Fields and the nature reserve as our January walk. The aim is to create a regular\, welcoming space to walk together\, notice the river through the seasons\, and gradually build a shared understanding of how it is changing and what it needs. \nWe’ll take time to observe: \n\nhow the river looks after a month of heavy rain\nchanges in water levels and flow\nsigns of erosion or recovery\nwinter wildlife and early signs of growth\n\nNo expert knowledge is needed. These walks are about noticing\, talking\, listening and learning together. \nThe pace will be easy\, with stops along the way. The route is around a mile and a half and includes some muddy sections\, so sturdy footwear is recommended. \nDogs on leads are welcome. Children are welcome with supervision. You’re very welcome to come on your own or with friends. \nWe’ll be repeating this accessible loop monthly (weather permitting) to build connection\, continuity and a shared sense of care for the river. \nIf you’re able to join us or if you have any questions\, please email: riverarrowvolunteers@gmail.com
